Calling all artists! You are invited to participate in the 2016 Outdoor Creations - A Boulder County Juried Art Show. Submit up to four works of art for a chance to win prizes and be featured in the art show.

Rules

  • Works must be created using en plein air technique or "working in the open air" between May 1, 2016, and August 11, 2016.
  • Works must feature Boulder County Parks and Open Space property.
    • Works of the Flatirons, Chautauqua Park, or other areas not owned by Boulder County Parks and Open Space will not be accepted.

Art Show

Selected works of art will be exhibited at the Great Frame Up - Longmont from October 14 through November 4, 2016. More details will be posted closer to the show.


Jurors

Carol Jenkins Prize Juror

Carol Jenkins was born to an artistic Massachusetts’ family and has been a Colorado painter for decades. Carol’s formal training took place at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She specializes in oil and her style has been refined through studies with acclaimed “plein air” artists throughout the west including Kim English, Skip Whitcomb, Kang Cho, Greg Kreutz, George Strickland, Carolyn Anderson and Kevin Weckbach.

Carol lives in Ward, Colorado and paints in the Rocky Mountains, the deserts of the Southwest, Florida and New England. Carol has received numerous awards including the 2015 Award of Excellence, Oil Painters of America Western Regional show, the 2014 Awards of Merit, Plein Air Artists Colorado, the 2013 Artist Choice Award, Best Body of Work, Plein Air for the Park National show, as well as being the recipient of numerous other accolades.


Molly Davis Selection Juror

Molly Davis was a commercial illustrator and graphic designer for 15 years, and started her painting career after the sale of her advertising agency. Molly received her degree in Fine Art from East Carolina University. Molly works in watercolor and oil and enjoys working on location for the major portion of the year in sites around Boulder County and in her travels across the United States and Europe.

The beauty of simple everyday things in life constantly inspires her and she paints to express the subtle changes in the light conveying the multitude of colors in nature at sunrise, sunset, and all through the day. Molly is a member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Aire Painters Association, the Rocky Mountain Watercolor Media Association, Colorado Watercolor Society and the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington. She has received numerous awards and honors in group and solo shows.


Lori Hight Selection Juror

Lori Hight grew up in Colorado and spent much of her childhood traveling in the Rocky Mountains. After getting her degree in Fine Art from Colorado State University in 1978, she began a career in graphic design. Leaving that behind, she rediscovered her love of the natural world and began to paint the peaceful, unpredictable beauty of the west. Along with her work being exhibited in several Boulder galleries, she has been involved in Boulder’s Open Studio event for 10 years, and served on the board in 2007.

Lori teaches oil painting in her home studio. In 2015, Lori was commissioned to create a painting for the Star Card! The Boulder Chamber of Commerce chooses a Boulder artist to create the image for the card and proceeds from the cards go towards helping to keep Boulder’s holiday star lit.


Jane Hunt Selection Juror

After moving to the US as a teenager, Jane Hunt studied illustration at the Cleveland Institute of Art. She continued her art education by experiencing art communities in France, England, Indonesia and China while studying various painting techniques. Jane now resides in Colorado, where she continues to be awed and inspired by the natural beauty surrounding her.

Over Jane’s 25 year career she has juried, judged, curated, and chaired innumerable events and shows. Jane has served as a faculty demo artist at the 2016 Plein Air Convention, she is a signature member of Plein Air Artists of Colorado and Women Artists of the West. Her work is displayed at the Mission Gallery of Fine Art, Utah and is collected in 11 countries. Jane is represented by top US and UK galleries. She has received numerous awards including Artist's Choice and People's Choice Award winner at Plein Air Artists and Colorado Plein Air Annual Shows.
