Walker Ranch Management Plan

Walker Ranch Open Space consists of 3,818 acres on 13 original parcels. The property is located west of Boulder in the foothills east of the Continental Divide. The two central properties of the open space were purchased by Boulder County in 1977, a third parcel followed in 1986 and the final ten properties were purchased from the Bureau of Land Management in 2006.

 Process

Update to the Management Plan

A plan for Walker Ranch was completed in 1985. Since then, a lot has changed to the area in and around Walker Ranch. A new management plan is needed that incorporates public input, addresses new and evolving concerns, updates the existing document, and develops responses to emerging issues.

Draft Management Plan

A number of changes are proposed on how to manage Walker Ranch. The purpose is to maintain much of what users have come to expect from the open space while ensuring that the many services the property provides can continue well into the future. Management changes are focused on that need to address specific issues.

Next Steps

Staff will present the draft management plan to the Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee on May 23 for approval.

If approved by the Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee, the plan will be presented to the Board of County Commissioners for final approval.
