Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

CLOSURE: Boulder County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facility will be closed Wednesday, December 24 through Wednesday, December 31. The facility will reopen on Friday, January 2, and resume the regular schedule except for severe weather closures.

Boulder County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility Household Hazardous Waste Facility

The County operates a central household hazardous waste collection facility accepting most household hazardous wastes, including motor oil, antifreeze and other automotive products, garden, hobby and pet products, drain cleaners, pool chemicals, household batteries, paint and other home maintenance products.

Location

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is located in the southeast corner of Western Disposal Services’ Waste Transfer Station at 5880 Butte Mill Road, east of Boulder.

Hours

The facility is open for waste drop-off (no appointment necessary) each Wednesday 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday between 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Free reusable products are also available to the public during these hours. Please note: the facility is NOT open on public holidays, and for safety reasons it CLOSES in bad weather such as extreme high temperature (98 degrees) and low temperatures, rain, snow, high winds, and lightening storms. Also note that several communities (Broomfield, Lafayette, Longmont, Louisville, and Superior) hold annual or periodic HHW collection events for their residents. Contact your local town/city hall for details.

Cost

There is no charge, but it's not free. The Household Hazardous Waste Program is funded by Boulder and Broomfield Counties, the cities of Boulder, Lafayette, Longmont and Louisville, and the towns of Erie and Superior. Each city pays for the participation of its residents and the County pays for participation by small town, and unincorporated area residents.

Donations

In order to help fund this important service the Household Hazardous Waste Program accepts voluntary cash donations from residents. A convenient donations box is available at the facility. Tax-deductible receipts are available on request.

The program serves all Boulder County residents, City and County of Broomfield and Town of Erie residents.

Proof of residency (for example, your driver's license, voter identification, tax certificate, lease agreement) is required when you drop-off your wastes.
