Boulder County Resource Conservation Division and the city of
Boulder’s Office of Environmental Affairs want you to ‘Get the Dirt on
Composting.’ They have teamed up to launch an educational campaign
titled, Get the dirt on composting with the slogan, “This is a backyard.
This is a backyard on compost.”
The goal of the campaign is to spark interest and motivate people to
keep their compostable yard waste and food scraps out of the trash by
either composting in their own backyard or by taking material to an
organics collection site.
Almost 20% of household garbage is yard and food waste that can be
diverted from landfills and turned into rich compost. Compost helps
lawns and gardens thrive. Residents will use less water and fertilizer
and could pay less on their trash bill just by composting.
The campaign will be launched just in time for Earth Day on April 22nd!
Free backyard composting workshops are scheduled on:
Saturday, April 21, 10 am – Noon
Wednesday, May 2, 6 – 8 pm
Boulder County Recycling Center
1901 63rd St, Boulder
Saturday, May 5, 10 am – Noon

www.bouldercountyrecycles.net under the Composting page and see a newly
refreshed webpage educating residents about how to get started, how to
make a bin, where to purchase bins, what to do with finished compost,
and where to find compost demonstration gardens!
Educational materials include an eye-catching poster, a new backyard
composting brochure and updates to the website. Staff will be out and
about this summer at Farmer’s Markets, festivals and events promoting
the benefits of composting.
