The Boulder County
Board of County Commissioners has awarded $36,702 to seven waste
reduction programs for the Resource Conservation Division's
Community Outreach Program 2006.
For the past nine
years, the Boulder County Resource Conservation Division has funded
$675,000 towards educational or infrastructure programs within
Boulder County and Broomfield County.
Programs funded for 2006:

ReSource Website
Redesign $5,000
Center for ReSource
Conservation (CRC)
ReSource will use
funds to redesign the ReSource website to enable customers to view
inventory at ReSource without needing to make a trip to the
facility. This will reduce unnecessary trips while increasing sales
and waste diversion.

Recycling Containers at the Boulder Reservoir
$10,000
The City of Boulder
will use funds to purchase recycling containers for permanent
placement at the Boulder Reservoir. With more than 35,000 visitors
generating 110,840 pounds of trash a year, introducing a recycling
program to this recreation area will not only educate tens of
thousands of people a year but also will assist with Boulder's waste
reduction goal.

of Longmont's REACH (Reuse, Education And Community Help) program

The City of
Longmont's REACH program will use funds for a storage trailer to
store reused items from its Stop-n-Drop events. The reused items are
set aside by volunteers and distributed to non-profit groups for
low-income or humanitarian needs.

The City of
Louisville will use funds to continue to sponsor its four city
Zero-Waste events in 2006.

Litterless Lunch Project and Waste-Free Lunch Contest $3,820
Eco-Cycle/Boulder County School
Recycling and Env. Education Program
Eco-Cycle/Boulder
County School Recycling and Environmental Education Program will use
funds to purchase reusable cloth lunch bags for the Litterless Lunch
Project and to implement the Waste-Free Lunch Contest. This will
enable Eco-Cycle to implement the Litterless Lunch Project in at
least 20 classrooms and the Waste Free Lunch contest in six schools,
involving approximately 3,000 students and their families
countywide.

Growing Green Tours: A Composting Education Project $4,766

Eco-Cycle/Boulder
County School Recycling and Environmental Education Program will use
funds for 12 Growing Green Tours for 3rd - 5th grade students in
Boulder and Broomfield County public schools. These tours promote
composting to participating students and their families, and
encourage teachers to include composting in their curriculum.

The Green Girl Recycling Services
Green Girl will use
funds to purchase a second 10-foot long hydraulically operated
staked bed. This will allow Green Girl to double the amount of homes
they currently provide recycling services for in the mountains.
