Master Composter Program
Accepting Applications
The Boulder County Master Composter Program is accepting applications
for the 2004 class. The application deadline is March 10.
This award-winning volunteer educational outreach program, through
the help of local composting and gardening professionals, trains
residents in composting and composting-related issues. The course offers
six weeks of training in how to build and maintain a compost pile,
troubleshooting problems, compost use and benefits, composting with
worms and other advanced topics.
After the training, the Master Composters volunteer their time to
staff tables and booths to educate residents about composting at local
events such as farmer's markets, schools, festivals, and the county
fair. In addition, this group helps maintain area compost demonstration
sites and runs a compost bin sale as a fundraiser.
This year's course will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from
March 30th to May 4, with a final class from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday,
May 8th. All classes will be held at the Boulder County Recycling
Center, 1901 63rd St. in Boulder. The cost for the training is $65, in
addition to 15 hours of required community service to be completed
before Dec. 31, 2004.
For an application, call the Center for ReSource Conservation,
303-441-3278 or the Boulder County Cooperative Extension, 303-776-4865.
You may also stop by their offices and pick one up before the
application deadline of March 10. The class is limited to 30
participants and spaces fill quickly.
This program is a proud partnership of the Center for ReSource
Conservation, the CSU Cooperative Extension-Boulder County, and the
Boulder County Resource Conservation Division. The Center for ReSource
Conservation has been coordinating the Boulder County Master Composter
Program for eleven years, thanks to funding provided by the Boulder
County Resource Conservation Division.
