Transportation Department Mission Statement:

Boulder County Transportation is committed to providing excellent service and transportation infrastructure. We provide a reliable network of roadways, bikeways, trails and transit service to the citizens of Boulder County while ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the public. We coordinate, provide and maintain a high quality, safe and multi-modal transportation network and related services, in a responsive manner, within budget, on schedule and resulting in high customer satisfaction.

Boulder County Transportation Infrastructure

Boulder County maintains:

  • 398 miles of paved road
  • 247 miles of gravel road
  • 77 major bridges
  • 445 large culverts and smaller bridges/access points
  • 8500 small culverts (approximately)

The Boulder County Transportation Department has five primary Divisions:

Planning Division:

  • Development of policies and programs
  • Manages the floodplain and drainage to minimize damage caused by flooding
  • Reviews land development within the county to preserve and protect the public rights-of-way.

Engineering Division:

  • Includes the design and construction of all the county's transportation projects
  • Projects may include: paving, bridge construction and reconstruction, bikeway shoulder construction, regional trails and roadway drainage structures

Multi-Modal Division:

Road Maintenance Division:

  • Responsibilities include: culverts, dust control, paving, asphalt and gravel, road grading, road signs, snow plowing, tree and brush removal
  • Roadside mowing and weed control is the responsibility of Boulder County Parks & Open Space - Call 303-678-6200

Fleet Services Division:

  • Manages the county's fleet of vehicles and machinery
  • Performs maintenance and repairs
  • Purchases Vehicles
  • Works to improve the sustainability of fleet operations
