The Highway 93 Shoulders Project is a multi-jurisdictional project to improve multimodal access and safety between Marshall Drive/State Highway 170 and State Highway 128.
Boulder County, in collaboration with the State of Colorado and the City of Boulder, has identified funding to reconstruct the highway between highways 170 and 128, including the addition of shoulders to each side of the highway and a pedestrian underpass along the city's Community Ditch Trail.
Design of the highway has begun. Preliminary concepts were shown to the public at a project open house on June 21, 2012. Concepts included three alternatives for the trail crossing only with various shoulder widths and configuration.
Current design is focused on highway improvements; bicycle enhancements and the installation of a pedestrian underpass for the City of Boulder's Community Ditch Trail directly north of the current crossing of the Community Ditch. Remaining design decisions include the ability to close the highway for construction, cost considerations and identifying potential impacts to Open Space properties.
Construction is scheduled for late 2013/2014.
