Community Relations Activities
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Operations Division’s representatives are available to meet with community
groups and civic groups to conduct educational programs and participate in public events on a scheduled basis.
Although, the Sheriff’s Office does not have a traditional Crime Prevention Unit or a formal Neighborhood Watch
Program, Operation’s Division representatives can attend group meeting and share information on and explain topics
such as crime prevention, safe neighborhood approaches, on going local/neighborhood criminal and suspicious
activities in the unincorporated areas of Boulder County.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages neighborhood groups to organize local homeowners in given area in topics such as
crime and suspicious activities prevention and reporting, protection of children, vandalism reduction and
prevention and traffic safety. Any group wishing to have a deputy present at a meeting may contact Supervisor Sylvia
Wagner at (303) 441 - 3650 or the Sheriff’s Operations Division administrative Commander Joseph Gang at (303) 441 -
3633 to schedule the event. Generally, the deputy who will be assigned to attend will be one that specifically
works the district involved. They work with the Sheriff’s Office Crime Analyst to have up to date activity
information to share at the meeting. In certain circumstances a Sheriff’s Office Supervisor can be requested or
may attend the meeting along with the district deputy.
In order to facilitate a more effective meeting it is recommended that the person requesting the meeting have
the following information before scheduling the event.
- Date, time and location of the meeting.
- Estimated duration that the deputy will be needed.
- Estimated number of participants.
- Identification of any specific topics to be covered.
- Requests for any specific handouts.
- Attendance by any younger children so that the deputy might bring age specific materials.
- Advanced notice of any potential problems including interpersonal issue within the group, distributive
individual(s) known or expected to attend or the expected presence of the media as examples.
- Any other Sheriff’s Office personnel or personnel from another governmental agencies that the group might like
to speak with such as Animal Control Specialist, Crime Analysis, Detectives, Wildland Fire Operations, Colorado
Department of Wildlife etc.
The Sheriff’s Office does not provide the following services:
- Bicycle or tricycle education/safety.
- Fingerprinting in general at offsite meetings.
- Fingerprinting of children.
- Firearms Training.
- Defensive Tactics Training
