The County HazMat Team has been responding since July of 1986, pursuant to C.R.S 29-22-102 (3)(b), and County
Resolution number 84-9, designating the Sheriff's Office as the "Designated Emergency Response Authority"
(DERA) for the Un-incorporated portions of Boulder County. The Team contracts with all incorporated municipalities
and jurisdictions within Boulder County for response.
The Team consists of 31 certified hazmat technician level members from the Sheriff's Office, Cities of Boulder
and Longmont Fire Departments, Cherryvale Fire Protection District, and several volunteer members.
Response vans are located in Longmont, Boulder, and Cherryvale, to bring the specialized equipment required for
safe mitigation of hazardous substance incidents.
The Team has responded to over 120 incidents since 1986 and has been reimbursed for over 90% of the costs
associated with the calls.
