Jail Program Goals

I. Develop inmate work habits and skills

  1. Manage inmate time in jail
  2. Give added responsibilities
  3. Teach inmates to take pride in their work and to respect authority

II. Reduce inmate idleness

  1. Reduce the chance for trouble
  2. Give inmates something to look forward to

III. Meet needs in the community

  1. Helps to bring pride back into the community
  2. Inmate will now be able to put funds back into his community
  3. Inmate will be more easily accepted back into society

IV. Generate revenues or reduce cost for Boulder County

  1. Help to take some of the burden off the taxpayer
  2. Will allow inmates to feel self-supporting

V. To help inmates become self-sufficient

  1. Inmate will learn pride in paying his own way
  2. This will also help their families to become self-sufficient
  3. Decreases dependency on state support

VI. To provide inmates with the means to adjust smoothly back into society

  1. By being prepared to work, most of the problems the inmate would have faced will be eliminated
  2. Society will be more accepting of them just as they will be more accepting of society
  3. This will help the inmate to feel worthy of their family and remove some of the guilt involved with being incarcerated
