John J. Ellingham (1842-1904)
John Ellingham emigrated from Illinois in 1860, he was a man of many interests. He worked as a ranch hand, a mason,
did some mining all across the west, freighted goods by wagon across the plains, in 1876 he was made Superintendent
of the Caribou mines.
He was elected Sheriff in 1877 and re-elected in 1879, he also served as a Deputy U.S. Marshal, before returning
to California, where he again took up mining.
