To RENEW your Concealed Handgun Permit, you may apply as early as
120 days prior to the expiration of your original permit. It is recommended to apply at
least 30 days in advance of your expiration date.
The Renewal application process requires the following:
- A completed
application for renewal (this is the same form as the original application, but check the box
that says renewal and write in your permit number). The “Proof of Firearms Training”
section on the second page of the application does not pertain to renewals.
(We already have a training certificate from your original application for a
CCW.) Do not sign the application - applications must be signed in front of
an authorized Sheriff’s representative.
- A non-refundable check or money order for $50.00 made payable to the
Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
- A non-refundable cashier’s check or money order for $13.00
made payable to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). (This is for a
simple background check – you will not be fingerprinted again.)
- Return the above items IN PERSON to the Boulder County Sheriff’s
Office – 1777 – 6th Street, Boulder, 2nd Floor Sheriff’s Records Counter.
- Once your application for renewal has been processed and approved, your renewed
Concealed Handgun Permit will be mailed to you within 60-90 days.
**No new picture will be taken. Your original picture will be used on the renewed
Concealed Handgun Permit.
If you fail to renew during the prescribed renewal time, you will be assessed a $15.00 late charge in
addition to the above-mentioned renewal fees. If you do not renew your permit
within six months of expiration, the permit shall be deemed permanently expired,
and to obtain a permit, you will need to re-apply by submitting a new
application and all the appropriate fees.
