Boulder County Sustainability Initiative
Facilities Managers Network
Facilities managers play a key role in the
operational efficiencies of Boulder County's largest
buildings and structures. Currently, the
commercial/institutional sector accounts for 47 percent of
greenhouse gas emissions in the county, the largest
contribution of any sector.
For this and other reasons, Boulder County launched a
Facilities Managers Network in 2007 for facilities managers
from major institutions in the county to help create a more
sustainable Boulder County and provide an example for other
communities to follow.
The group, which meets quarterly, includes facilities
managers from local municipalities, educational
institutions, and large private facilities.
Participants expect to address topics such
as energy efficiency strategies, zero waste practices, solar
installations, green building, water efficiency measures,
indoor air quality, and more. A discussion is already under
way about how to utilize biomass heating to reduce use
fossil fuel consumption and pollution.
A similar network for vehicle Fleet Managers is expected to
launch in early 2008.
