Mission Statement
Boulder County provides resources, knowledge and
motivation to make sustainability an integral part of our
public service mission.
Goals and Objectives
Budget Goals:
- Develop a plan for generating and allocating dedicated
funds to support pollution prevention and reduction and
energy, water and natural resource conservation The plan
will be based on clear priorities, standards and measures.
- Identify priorities, standards and measures
(Cost/benefit analysis)
- Develop a funding plan
Internal funding:
- Restructure capital expenditures
- Incorporate sustainability in budget requests
- Investigate internal debt funding
- Fund sustainability staffing, management, structure
External funding:
- Develop a database for employees of grants and external
funding available
- Create incentives with matching funds
- Set targets for obtaining outside funding
- Apply for and obtain external funding
Education Goals:
- Educate staff and the public about the long-term
environmental, public health and fiscal benefits of
pollution prevention and reduction and energy, water and
natural resource conservation
- Educate staff and the public about various means of
accomplishing pollution reduction and resource conservation
- Aid elected officials in creation of a coherent
sustainability policy
- Develop a common sustainability definition
- Assess resources, staff knowledge and education needs
- Develop standards for involving staff
- Generate an education master plan
