Green Building and Energy Sub-Committee
On Nov. 22, 2005, the Boulder County
Commissioners passed resolution 2005-137: "Adopting a Sustainable Energy Path for Boulder
County."
Mission Statement
County-owned facilities are high performance,
low-impact facilities that minimize the life-cycle costs of
operations, provide space that encourages high quality
public service, and educates the public and employees.
Goals and Objectives
Goals
- Define an appropriate County commitment to
sustainability. Consider the Kyoto targets (7% below 1990
levels by 2008-2012) with a longer term goal of moving toward
being climate neutral.
- Ascertain where we are versus where we want to be by
conducting a greenhouse gas inventory and energy use trends
- Prioritize where change/adds should happen
- Ensure expertise in new and emerging
technologies and prepare for next generation of technologies
Objectives
-
Pursue Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) Existing Building (EB)certification for a
selected existing facility
-
Pursue LEED New Building (NB) certification
process on a selected new facility (LEED Detox building process is
underway)
-
Create a standard for the design and
operation of new and existing county-owned facilities -
consistent with LEED Gold with emphasis on energy efficiency
more than LEED
-
Develop budget recommendations consistent with the
vision statement
-
Pursue all rebate program opportunities (PV,
Xcel, Longmont, ESCO)
-
Pursue most sustainable renewable energy
sources - purchases (based on a percentage of total
electricity use) and cost-effective Photo Voltaic
- Measure success against an appropriate benchmark
