Overview
Boulder County developed the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan (BCCP) in
1978 to address the “widely accepted principle that the myriad of
future land use decisions affecting the county’s lands should be made in
a coordinated and responsible manner.” By identifying goals
and providing county-wide policy guidance to implement them, the BCCP
provides a roadmap for the future of Boulder County. The BCCP
contains nine different elements, including one for Transportation.

The last Transportation Element Update occurred in 1995. Since then,
many aspects of our economy, environment and society have changed. In
recognition of the changed landscape, the Boulder County Planning
Commission authorized the Transportation Department to proceed with a
2009 Update of the Transportation Element at their November 2008
meeting. The purpose of the 2009 Transportation Element Update is to
update the policies to carry forward recent County sustainability
initiatives and to better explore the relationship between the natural
environment, land use, and transportation on a site-specific level.
Public input is a large part of any Comprehensive Plan development and
the public is encouraged to participate in the current Transportation
Element Update. A full schedule of meetings is available on the
County's website.
