95th Street Bridge Replacement Over Boulder Creek

The 95th Street Bridge replacement project will replace the existing roadway bridge over Boulder Creek between Valmont Road and south of Lookout Road with a new structure that will include paved shoulders for bicycles.  The new structure is needed to remove the current weight restrictions and to comply with the current technology for highway loading.

The existing structure of the 95th Street Bridge over Boulder Creek was built in 1962 and is in need of replacement to meet current and future traffic demands.  The new structure will accommodate two thru-lanes (one northbound and one southbound) and paved bike lanes on each side.  The new bridge will be slightly longer and higher than the existing structure to increase its conveyance capacity for flood events and decrease the potential occurrences of flooding on N. 95th Street.

Bridge improvements are funded through Boulder County Capital Improvements Program (CIP) and Urban Drainage & Flood Control District CIP funds.  The total cost of the project is projected at just under $1.0 million and will be constructed by DeFalco Construction Company.

It is anticipated that construction period for this project will extend for approximately six months.  N. 95th Street will be closed to through traffic from August 3, 2009 through January 29, 2010 to maintain a safe work zone and minimize the time needed to complete the construction project and its impact on the public.

N. 95th Street Bridge Replacement Begins Work on Abutments Prior to Demolition of Bridge

Contractor will begin excavation for the north bridge abutment Monday, September 21, no through vehicular, bicycle or pedestrian traffic will be allowed to cross through the construction zone until the road is reopened.

Clearance for the swallows nesting under the bridge will allow demolition of the bridge components following Friday, September 25.  The Contractor is expected to begin disassembling the bridge deck on Monday, September 28.  The bridge will be out of service for the duration of the project (currently projected to be January 29, 2010).

The project work schedule is expected to be impacted by the high water levels in Boulder Creek until November, when the creek will convey only stormwater runoff without supplemental irrigation water.
