N. 63rd Street Bridge Replacement Over Lefthand Creek
The current 63rd Street
Bridge over Lefthand Creek was constructed in 1965. The existing
bridge is structurally safe but is too narrow to handle traffic and too
low to convey a large flood.
The new bridge is planned to increase the span across
the creek enough to convey a 100-year flood. The roadway will also
be widened to accommodate a widened shoulders for both cyclists and
pedestrians. The new roadway cross-section will match that
currently under construction along 63rd Street both north and south of
the bridge.
The bridge replacement is scheduled to be funded with
a combination of Federal Bridge funds and County sales tax.
Federal funds are unavailable until July 2011. Boulder County
plans to start construction in October 2011.
