Coal Creek/Rock Creek Trail System

Since 1991, Boulder County has coordinated the planning and development of the Coal Creek/Rock Creek Trails System in southeastern Boulder County.

The Coal Creek Trail is a soft-surface trail that parallels Coal Creek from McCaslin Boulevard in Superior to 120th Street in Lafayette. Recent competition of several links through the City of Louisville and the reconstruction of the 96th Street extension has resulted in almost eight miles of contiguous trail. Completion of the entire 12 miles of trail will require the extension through the Town of Superior to link with the City of Boulder Trail system and an extension east across 120th to Flagg Park and north to connect to the Town of Erie trail system.

The Rock Creek Trail parallels Rock Creek from McCaslin Boulevard in Superior through the Carolyn Holmberg Preserve/Rock Creek Farm Open Space near Broomfield. Completion of the missing link between Rock Creek Farm and the new Imel trail that starts at Dillon Road will extend the Rock Creek Trail through Lafayette to 120th Street.

 Future projects (missing links):
  • Coal Creek Trail – Downtown Superior to Mahoffer / Singletree
  • Coal Creek Trail – Mayhoffer / Singletree to Marshal Mesa (66th Street)
  • Rock Creek Trail – US287 (Rock Creek Farm) to Dillon Road
  • Coal Creek / Rock Creek Trail  – Confluence Plan
