Feeder Canal Trail

The Feeder Canal Trail is a proposed 11-mile regional trail connecting the city of Boulder trail system with the Town of Lyons.

A specific alignment for the trail has not yet been identified. However, the trail is expected to more-or-less follow the Boulder Feeder Canal, a agricultural and municipal supply canal that transverses northern Boulder County.

Because a portion of the proposed alignment may cross federally-owned property, the design of the trail must follow federal environmental processes. These processes require an assessment of alignment alternatives along with environmental inventory and impact assessment.

Boulder County anticipates a trail master planning process for the Canal Trail  to begin in 2008 and last through the summer of 2009. This process will examine several trail alignments and identify a preferred alignment through an evaluation of environmental impacts along with a public process to gauge the preferences of neighborhood residents and user groups.
