Rock Creek:  Mayhoffer to Coalton Road

Boulder County Transportation partnered with Boulder County Parks and Open Space in 2007 to develop the Marshall-Superior-Coalton Trail Corridor Management Plan.  The City of Boulder, Open Space and Mountain Parks and the Town of Superior also contributed to the plan.  One purpose of the plan was to provide a strategic guide for the implementation of a regional trail from Original Town of Superior to the Coalton Trail.  The second purpose was for the implementation of a regional trail from the Marshall Mesa area to the Original Town Superior.

Since the spring of 2008, the County moved forward with design of the recommended alignment connecting Original Town of Superior to the Coalton Trail.  The Trail will traverse County and Town of Superior open space properties connecting the Mayhoffer/Singletree Trail to the Coalton Trail.  Construction of the trail is anticipated for late summer into fall of 2009.

The 2007 trail plan included several goals of which this trail will provide, including:

  • Create a safe, high quality, regional recreational trail as part of a comprehensive system.

  • Provide a connection between the western termini of the Coal Creek and Rock Creek Regional Trails.

  • Minimize environmental and neighborhood impacts.

  • Minimize impacts to agricultural lands and agricultural operations.

  • Develop multiple-use regional trail linkages to promote alternative transportation modes.
