Backcountry Forest Restoration on November 8

Enjoy your time at beautiful Heil Valley Ranch, while helping restore healthy forest and meadow ecosystems. We will use handsaws and loppers to thin unhealthy ponderosa pine stands. The work we will accomplish is part of a larger restoration plan that will re-establish natural forest systems and improve wildlife habitat. Minimum age is 12 with adult supervision. This project runs from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Please register by November 6 by calling 303-678-6216 or by e-mailing WildWorkVolunteers@BoulderCounty.org.

Celebrate National Diabetes Month, November 15, 2008!

Join your community and friends help out at the First Annual Diabetes-Friendly Recipe Competition! Boulder County Aging Services is partnering with many local organizations to challenge local Mexican and Latin American Restaurants to create healthy and tasty recipes for diabetics. We will be serving samples of each restaurant’s recipes to the community. Minimum age is 15 to serve food with parental permission. The event runs from 1:00-6:00pm.

Please register by November 12, 2008 by calling 303-441-3599 or emailing mjohnson@bouldercounty.org

Help Clean Native Seed on November 15

Every year Boulder County Parks and Open Space volunteers help collect millions of native grass and flower seeds, that are later used in restoration projects on Open Space lands. Before some of these seeds can be planted, they must be sorted and cleaned. Volunteers will learn to identify native seeds and how to prepare them for use. This project runs from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Minimum age is 12 with adult supervision. Please register by November 14 by e-mailing WildWorkVolunteers@BoulderCounty.org or calling 303-678-6216.
