VITA Program - Help with Income Tax Returns

Make life easier for low-income wage earners; help them with their Income Tax Returns! Volunteer and you will ensure that these taxpayers receive their appropriate income tax refunds.  Not only will you learn about the many special credits and deductions available, you will also learn how these tax benefits can be claimed on their return.

The VITA program welcomes professionals and non-professionals alike.  Your enthusiasm and once-a-week commitment, from February 7 through April 11, will fill one of the many available jobs.  No worries—you can still take time off for spring break or any personal needs.

You will help fill out tax forms and electronically file returns that may lead to Earned Income Tax Credits of up to $4,000 or Child Tax Credits of $1,000 per child.  The IRS will provide classroom tax training during December and self-paced, online tax training will also be available.  In addition, 3-4 hours of software training is planned for January.

VITA, a volunteer program of the IRS, provides this service is FREE to low-income wage earners in partnership with the Boulder County Treasurer and the Boulder County Department of Social Services.  As a volunteer, you will learn new things, meet people and help your fellow citizens. How can you resist?  For more information contact Don Kava of VITA, kava@bcn.boulder.co.us at 303-494-2632, or Lita Chase, lchase@BoulderCounty.org at 303-441-1796, in the Treasurer’s Office.

Tutor/Mentor at Casa de la Esperanza Academic Center

Casa de la Esperanza, a family farm worker site in South Longmont, has volunteer openings for people who can come a couple hours a week to assist young students with homework. This dynamic after-school program just may be a good fit for you! Computer lab is open for after-school hours. Volunteers are welcomed for whatever time you can give between 3 and 8 pm. Looking especially for people with computer competencies. Need not speak Spanish, but that is also helpful in this program. Contact Carlota Loya Hernández at cloya@bouldercounty.org or call her at 303-678-6220
