Provide jail inmates in the Transition Module with educational and employment resources to facilitate their successful re-entry into the community.  Conduct interviews with inmates to assess their educational/employment experience and assist them in accessing continuing educational resources, developing job search skills and locating employment opportunities.  Prefer a working background in business and experience managing employees.  Must have the ability to interview and work effectively with inmates and demonstrate strong organizational and problem solving skills.  Flexible days and weekly hours are negotiable.  A six-month commitment is required.
For more information and an application, contact the Justice System Volunteer Program at 303-441-3718 or email jallan@bouldercounty.org.

Community Justice Services: ESL Tutor, Jail Education and Transition
Volunteer to teach ESL classes to Spanish-speaking inmates at the Boulder County Jail.  The Jail Education and Transition Program (JET) provides inmates who will be transitioning out of jail with basic literacy, educational and life skills tools to help them function more effectively and not re-offend.  Volunteers need some Spanish for the ESL classes.  Prefer Friday mornings but also have some flexibility.  2-4 hours per week for 6 months.  This is a great opportunity to use your Spanish-speaking skills while making a significant contribution.
For more information and an application, contact the Justice System Volunteer Program at 303-441-3718 or email jallan@bouldercounty.org.

D.A.'s Office: Support Staff Assistant, Victim/Witness
The D.A.'s Office has a great opportunity for volunteers who want to help crime victims.  The Victim/Witness Program provides support and information to victims of crime while guiding them through the court process, as well as coordinating the witness management system.  People interested in helping others as well as those interested in law will find this a fascinating way to get an inside look at the steps involved in prosecuting criminal cases.  Applications are being accepted for the fall training, which will cover the criminal justice process and topics such as domestic violence, victimization and crisis intervention.
Prefer community volunteers with substantial work/volunteer experience.  Backgrounds in law, business or education where the individual has interacted with diverse groups and ages is helpful.  Excellent communication skills, maturity and good judgment are essential. Time commitment is 8 hours/week during office hours for 1 year.
For more information and an application, contact the Justice System Volunteer Program at 303-441-3718 or email jallan@bouldercounty.org.

Tutors
Be a part of the Transition Day Program at the Jail!  Several inmates each month take and pass the GED (Graduate Equivalency Diploma), thus earning a high school level education.  Tutors can be of great help to inmates having difficulty in a particular area.  Math and literacy are the most common problem areas.  Your tutoring skills will be very helpful to one or more individuals.
