Whether you’re the parent of a veteran Corpsmember or a first year
applicant, you will find important program information on this page. We
encourage your child to take responsibility for their own job but it can’t
hurt for parents of first time Corpsmembers to help guide their child
through the employment process.
Please mark these dates in your calendar! Your child will receive
information by mail from us with detailed instructions on the next steps
involved in each process.
Application Deadline - Corpsmember applications were due Friday,
March 28. We will not accept any late or incomplete applications. Only
Boulder County residents aged 14-17 as of June 16 may apply. All new
applicants must submit one letter of reference with their application; all
applicants must write a brief letter to the Team Leader as indicated on the
application. Please give us two weeks after your child applies to check our
website to make sure we have received their application and that it is
complete; no calls please.
Social Security Card - Apply for a Social Security number now if
your child does not have one; if you do not have their original Social
Security card in your possession, apply for a duplicate now by calling the
Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213. Your child must show their
Social Security card to Human Resources before they can start work.
Season Dates/Hours - This summer's season runs from Monday, June
16, through Wednesday, August 6. Corpsmembers work Monday - Thursday from
8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a one-half hour unpaid lunch for a total of 30 hours
per week. 2008 Calendar
Interviews - Saturday, May 3 or May 10. All new applicants will go
through an interview. Your child will be sent a letter notifying him/her of
the interview date, time and location.
Returning Corpsmember Acceptance Date - If your child has worked
for the Youth Corps before and received a letter offering them a job this
summer, they need to reply by Wednesday, April 23, to let us know if they
will accept or decline the position. We allow returning Corpsmembers to tell
us if they’d like to be on the same team or try a different team this
summer.
Returning Corpsmember Paperwork Session/Deadline - Plan to attend
the paperwork session on Thursday, May 8, 5:00 - 7:00 pm, in the Training
Room in the East Wing of the Boulder County Courthouse, located at
2025 14th
St., Boulder. All returning Corpsmembers must complete a new I-9 according
to federal law. In order to provide time outside of the normal hours that
you can turn in paperwork to Human Resources (Monday - Friday, 8:00 am -
4:30 pm), please attend this session to complete all paperwork. Forms will be
mailed in advance. Follow the instructions in the packet and bring the necessary
documents with you to make sure all forms are filled out correctly. If your
child can’t make this session, they must complete and turn in all paperwork
to Human Resources by the deadline of Friday, May 16.
New Corpsmember Paperwork Session/Deadline - New applicants will
be notified by Friday, May 23, if they will be offered a job or not. There
will be a paperwork session for new Corpsmembers on Monday, June 2, from
4:30 - 6:30 pm in the Training Room if the East Wing of the Boulder County
Courthouse, located at
2025 14th St., Boulder. Forms will be mailed in
advance. Follow the instructions in the packet and bring the necessary documents
with you to make sure all forms are filled out correctly. If your child
can’t make this session, they must complete and turn in all paperwork to
Human Resources by the deadline of Wednesday, June 11.
Parent Orientation - Please join us for the Parent Orientation on
Thursday, June 12, from 7:00 - 8:30 pm at the Boulder County Parks & Open
Space building, located at
5201 St. Vrain Rd., Longmont. The
Parent Orientation is not mandatory but it is very helpful for
parents/guardians of new Corpsmembers. Come and find out what team your
child will be on and where they will meet their team. No Corpsmembers please
because space is limited.
First Day of Work - June 16. This is an all-day MANDATORY
Corpsmember Orientation/Training. Drop off your child by 8:00 am at the
Boulder County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building. The day will end at 4:00 pm so
please pick them up promptly. Have them bring a sack lunch and water bottle.
It is critical that all paperwork be completed before the first day of work!
After this day your child must meet their Team Leader at the team’s
transportation meeting location. They must have work gloves and work boots
for the second day of work, June 17.
Transportation - Corpsmembers are expected to arrange
transportation to their work site or their team’s transportation meeting
location where they will be met by a van. Corpsmembers are expected to
arrive promptly by 8:00 a.m. at transportation points to be announced at
both the Parent Orientation and the Corpsmember Orientation & Training.
Don’t worry, staff will match Corpsmembers to convenient transportation
points in their community accessible by bus based on the address provided on
the Corpsmember application. They will be transported to the work sites and
returned to the transportation points at the end of the day. It is a
Corpsmember's responsibility to be on time because vans will not wait for
people who are late. It is the Corpsmember's responsibility to wear his/her
seat belt at all times in County vehicles. Consumption of all food or
beverages is strictly prohibited in County vehicles.
Injury & Workers’ Compensation Insurance - Corpsmembers are
covered by Boulder County Workers’ Compensation Program. Corpsmembers who
are injured on the job will receive a copy of BOULDER COUNTY ON-THE-JOB INJURY INFORMATION, a wallet-sized easy reference card that details the
procedure for seeking medical attention and reporting an injury. In most
cases, the Team Leader will transport the injured Corpsmember to the nearest
County Designated Clinic for treatment and help the Corpsmember complete the
required form, and the Program Manager will contact the Corpsmember’s parent
or legal guardian to meet them at the clinic. Please note that treatment of
injuries resulting from horseplay or unauthorized activities is not covered.
If medical treatment is required, one of the County Designated Clinics must
be utilized. Failure to follow these procedures will result in medical bills
from unauthorized physicians becoming the Corpsmember’s responsibility.
Extended Holiday Break - Please note the extended holiday break
from July 3 through July 7 and plan vacations accordingly. Corpsmembers may
not miss more than 4 days (30 hours) of work, except for verified medical
reasons or an excused family emergency.
Last Day of Work - Wednesday, August 6, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The
season-end celebration at the Boulder Reservoir is considered a workday and
Corpsmembers are paid for attending. Team Leaders will pick up and drop off
Corpsmembers from the same transportation meeting location used all season.
Please note the late start and early release times for this day only. All
reimbursement forms are due this day.
Illness / Family Emergency - Your child must call 303-678-6104 by 7:00 am if they
will not be at work due to illness or a family emergency. This applies to each day
they miss.
Please note that two days of absences during the season without notification
are grounds for immediate dismissal. A doctor’s note is required for any
illness lasting more than 4 days.
Absence - Corpsmembers must notify their Team Leaders of planned
absences due to vacations, sports camps, etc. in advance. You don’t call in
to work on Monday to let them know you’ll be on vacation that week, so
please don’t let your child do that with their job. It is up to the Team
Leaders to track these planned absences. Again, Corpsmembers may not miss
more than 4 days (30 hours) of work, except for verified medical reasons or
an excused family emergency.
Paydays - The Youth Corps pays twice a month (in the middle of the
month and the last day of the month). Corpsmembers will receive their
paychecks from their Team Leaders. The last paycheck will be mailed on
Friday, August 15, and will include the bonus and any reimbursements.
Lost Paycheck - If your child misplaces a paycheck, they must fill
out an Affidavit to Obtain Replacement of Lost Warrant form, have it
notarized and submit the form to Boulder County Human Resources, Attn.:
Payroll, P.O. Box 471, Boulder, CO 80306-0471 or in person at 2025 14th St.,
Boulder (Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm). Please note that you can
print
the form here, or the form and a notary are available at Human Resources.
Lost W-2 - If your child misplaces their W-2, they must fill out
an Employer’s Request for Duplicate W-2 form and submit the form to Boulder
County Human Resources, Attn.: Payroll, P.O. Box 471, Boulder, CO 80306-0471
or in person at 2025 14th St., Boulder (Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm).
Please note that you can print the form here or it is available at Human
Resources. If the original W-2 was lost by the employee, there is a $5.00
fee payable to Boulder County.
