Insurance

Dealing with insurance matters is one of the most difficult and frustrating experiences for fire or flood survivors.

We recognize the complexity and the emotional impacts of having to make such a substantial property damage and loss claim, and we’re continuing to gather information to help residents navigate through the insurance system.

Homeowner’s Insurance

One of the themes we keep hearing from residents who lost homes and other structures in either a fire or flood has been the difficulty of working with insurance providers.

Colorado Division of Insurance

The Colorado Division of Insurance helps residents with consumer-related issues and questions around insurance. For more information, visit DORA’s website.

Flood Insurance

Important note: Flood damage is not cover by your homeowner’s insurance policy. You may be at risk of flood and debris flow impacts if you live in or around the areas burned in the fire. Flood insurance is available only through the U.S. government (administered by FEMA).

There is a 30-day waiting period before coverage goes into effect. For information, visit: www.floodsmart.gov.
