Name That Neighborhood!

Boulder County Housing Authority needs your help naming a new affordable workforce and senior housing neighborhood at the intersection of Emma and 120th Streets in east Lafayette!

BCHA and the Lafayette community are engaged in a design process for this new neighborhood of affordable workforce housing (complete information at www.LafayetteHousing.org), and now it’s time to design a name for the neighborhood. Examples of other affordable workforce and senior housing neighborhood names that capture a unique sense of place include Tungsten Village (in Nederland, after a rich mining history in the town), Kestrel (in Louisville, after a colorful falcon native to the area), and Aspinwall and Josephine Commons (in Lafayette, named after a leader in miners’ rights who was from the area).

What do you think is unique about this area of East Lafayette? Are there historical people or happenings in the area that might best represent the neighborhood? Eastern Boulder County has a history of habitation by many different peoples, animals, and other living creatures, as well as significant cultural events. Submit your ideas! Come up with a name that celebrates what is unique about this area of Lafayette and enter it to win gift cards from local Lafayette businesses.

It’s easy to participate: just submit your ideas (by November 1st) through this online form. There is more information about the contest in this document, as well.

Three finalists will be chosen and then announced on November 5th. Each of these three finalists will win a collection of gift cards from local Lafayette businesses with a retail value of $100. Community members can then vote on their favorite of the three and the Grand Prize winner will be announced on November 15th or shortly thereafter. (All of these opportunities will be announced here, through social media, and as many other venues as possible).

The Grand Prize winner will receive $250 in gift cards from local Lafayette businesses and recognition for naming the new neighborhood of affordable workforce homes in east Lafayette!

Again, please submit your ideas (by November 1st) through this online form. Thanks for being a great neighbor!
