Local, State, & National LGBTQIA+ Resources

The following list has been assembled by OASOS staff and is not intended to be exhaustive. These organizations support the overall health, mental health, and overall wellness of LGBTQIA+ people.

LGBTQIA+ Supportive Organizations in Boulder County

  • A Queer Endeavor (AQE) provides education and training for teachers and school administrators on LGBTQ+-inclusive practices in schools.
  • Boulder County AIDS Project (BCAP) provides education and support services for people living with or at risk for HIV and AIDS.
  • Boulder Valley Safe Schools Coalition (BVSSC) is a group of community members, family members, organizations, teachers, and students who advocate for LGBTQ+ affirming policies and practices in BVSD.
  • Boulder Valley Women’s Health Center (BVWHC) Teen Clinic provides sexual and reproductive health services for free or low cost to anyone under 20. SHAPE is their youth leadership program.
  • GENERATIONS/GLO – GENERATIONS works with siblings of pregnant or parenting teens with a focus on Latinx/a/o/e youth and reproductive health. GENERATIONS Leaders Organizing (GLO) is their leadership program.
  • Mental Health Partners – Community mental health organization with a team of licensed therapists and counselors specializing in trauma. Suicide prevention training and other resources available with low-cost and sliding scale options.
  • Moving to End Sexual Assault (MESA) provides education and support to survivors of sexual violence and the community.
  • Natural Highs Academy: Free ongoing support and help structuring your day with online materials, like worksheets, exercises, journal prompts, resources, and opportunities for online live meetings.
  • Open and Affirming Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Support Program (OASOS) provides support to LGBTQ+ youth, educators, and families through social support groups, Youth Advocating for Change (YAC) leadership group, and school-based services.
  • Out Boulder County provides a variety of programs for LGBTQ+ people in Boulder County, including youth programs, support groups, social events, mental health referrals, and more!
  • PFLAG Boulder County is a volunteer organization of parents and family members of LGBTQ+ people. They run regular peer support groups.
  • Queer Asterisk is a group therapy practice of queer and trans therapists. They provide mental health services, art therapy, weekly social groups for LGBTQ+ teens and adults, and peer mentoring.
  • Rise Against Suicide provides therapy for youth who are struggling with mental health and suicidality and who are uninsured or underinsured.
  • Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) focuses on intimate partner and sexual violence prevention and provides support services to survivors.
  • Sexual Health Awareness & Peer Education (SHAPE) is a teen leadership program that is part of the Teen Clinic at Boulder Valley Women’s Health Center.
  • St. Vrain Valley Safe Schools Coalition (SVVSSC) is a group of community members, family members, organizations, teachers, and students who advocate for LGBTQ+ affirming policies and practices in SVVSD.
  • Transforming Gender Conference is organized by the LGBTQ+ Center at CU Boulder. It is a day of workshops, speakers, and networking opportunities for youth and adults alike.

LGBTQIA+ Supportive Organizations in Colorado

  • Center for Trauma and Resilience supports people who have experienced trauma through therapy, education, legal advocacy, and more.
  • Denver Health LGBTQ+ Health Services connects folks with LGBTQ+ competent and informed health care through their LGBTQ+ Patient Navigators.
  • Envision: You works to support LGBTQ+ mental and behavioral health through research, advocacy, training, and programming in Colorado.
  • Fortaleza Familia provides support to Indigenous, Chicanx, and Latinx LGBTQ2s+ youth and their families in Colorado.
  • iMatter Colorado – All Colorado youth ages 18 or younger—or 21 and younger if receiving special education services—are eligible to receive free mental health services. State law allows youth ages 12 and up to use the platform independently; youth ages 11 and younger will need their parent or guardian’s consent to sign up.
  • Joy as Resistance is a mental health organization based out of Denver. They offer Tele-mental health and wellness opportunities for youth and have a mobile mental health clinic.
  • One Colorado – statewide LGBTQ+ advocacy organization who works to support inclusive policies at the state level, runs the CO chapter of the GSA Network, and has a youth leadership group.
  • Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains is a great resource for information on sexual health, consent, gender-affirming care, and more! Check out this page specifically for teens, where you can find information on everything from STI’s, gender and sexuality, birth control, and even a text/chat service for extra assistance. You can also follow @incaseyourecurious on instagram, or text INSTA to 57890 to ask your questions.
  • The Center on Colfax is Denver’s LGBTQ+ Center which provides many community resources and social support groups. Rainbow Alley is their youth program.
  • Transgender Center of the Rockies is a program of Mile High Behavioral Health. They provide mental and behavioral health services, substance use treatment, and support groups for gender diverse and transgender individuals. NXT is their youth program.
  • Trans Youth Education Network (TYES) is a statewide organization who provides support to parents and caregivers of gender diverse children and youth, and social support for children.
  • TRUE Center for Gender Diversity is part of the Children’s Hospital. They provide medical and mental health care and community referrals for gender diverse youth and families.
  • YouthSeen – provides mental health support, therapy, and other services to LGBTQ+ youth, particularly the QTPOC community.

National LGBTQIA+ Supportive Organizations

  • Abolitionist Teaching Network has information, events, and workshops for educators working towards liberation in their classrooms and beyond.
  • Advocates for Youth has many resources including the 3r’s Curriculum which is a reviewed and recommended curriculum for sexual health education for different age groups.
  • Future Perfect Project! Is from the same folks who brought you The Trevor Project and is focused on creating spaces LGBTQ+ youth and allies to connect to each other and express themselves through the arts.
  • Gender Inclusive Classroom is a resource by educators, for educators on making your classroom more affirming for gender diverse students in elementary schools. They provide curriculum, book lists, and other supportive resources.
  • Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has resources for schools and LGBTQ+ activism, organizaes Spirit Day.
  • Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) provides activity/lesson plans, information on Day of Silence, calendar of LGBTQ+ related events throughout the year, and more.
  • GSA Network has lots of great resources for starting and organizing GSA meetings, activities, history lessons, and more.
  • Learning for Justice, formerly “Teaching Tolerance,” shares free resources for educators. You can search their resources , and can filter results to focus on gender and sexuality resources, by grade, and by type (article, toolkit, etc.).
  • National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs works to organize local agencies to prevent and respond to violence against LGBTQ+ individuals.
  • Q CHAT SPACE provides regular live virtual chat spaces for teens 13-19.
  • The Trevor Project has a text line and an online chat support resource. Trained counselors are available to support youth in crisis 24/7. Youth can call the TrevorLifeline at 1-866-488-7386, text “Trevor” to 1-202-304-1200, or chat online at https://www.thetrevorproject.org/get-help-now/.
  • Trans Lifeline is a support hotline specifically for transgender people. Trans Lifeline is a national trans-led organization dedicated to improving the quality of trans lives by responding to the critical needs of our community with direct service, material support, advocacy, and education. Call: 877-565-8860.
  • Welcoming Schools is the Human Rights Campaign’s resource center for LGBTQ+ professional development training, lesson plans, booklists and resources specifically designed for educators and youth-serving professionals.
