Agriculture Outreach Project meetings scheduled for March 8 and 14
Meetings to discuss Farm Sales and Farm Events, Hoop Houses, Greenhouses and Other Agricultural Structures
The agricultural community has expressed to the county that they face a variety of significant challenges. Staff is working with the community to identify and address potential issues that will better position farmers and growers to succeed and thrive in Boulder County. In late 2017 a team of staff from Boulder County Land Use, Public Health, and Parks & Open Space departments and CSU Extension launched the Agricultural Outreach Project to identify topics and prioritize for updates to the Land Use Code and related regulations and programs.
Members of the agricultural community submitted comments through an online form, and at an open house on January 18 staff gathered additional input and explored topics addressed in previous comments. Those who have engaged in the Agricultural Outreach Project have provided valuable input. Staff is in the process of identifying which topics have the greatest potential to be addressed effectively in the near-term, and which items will require longer-term efforts.
The Land Use Department anticipates presenting some initial ideas for Land Use Code updates for consideration within the next few months. A summary of findings from the outreach effort up to this point will be posted soon.
A next step toward refining ideas for code changes is a set of two topic-focused meetings that will take place in March.
Staff plans to hold two topic-focused community meetings in March. The purpose of the meetings is to gain a deeper understanding of some of the specific needs of the community, review staff’s initial ideas, and ask some additional focused questions. The meetings will help equip staff with more detailed information to guide preparation of proposed Land Use code revisions.
- Thursday, March 8, 6-8 p.m.: Farm Sales and Farm Events
- Wednesday, March 14, 6-8 p.m.: Hoop Houses, Greenhouses and Other Agricultural Structures (a portion of this meeting will be devoted to discussing farm worker housing; that item will also be the subject of additional future engagement opportunities)
Both meetings will take place at the Boulder County Parks & Open Space Department, Prairie Room, 5201 St. Vrain Road, Longmont.
Registration is not required, but please take a moment to RSVP if you plan to attend, so we may better allocate staff resources for the meetings.
