Arrests made in connection with marijuana dispensary burglaries

Five juveniles arrested for six burglaries

Boulder County, Colo. - Two 14-year-old males, one 15-year-old male, one 16-year-old male, and one 17-year-old male were arrested over the past few weeks on multiple charges stemming from a series of marijuana dispensary burglaries that occurred between May and October of this year in unincorporated Boulder County.

Over the course of the summer, deputies were called to the 10 block of S. Sunset St. three times and the 8000 Block of Baseline Rd. three times between 1 and 4 a.m. Each time glassware or marijuana was stolen and property damage occurred at the businesses.

The juveniles are also suspected of committing burglaries at dispensaries all over the state. During the last burglary, a stolen vehicle with a stolen gun inside was found on a nearby street leading to a break in the case. Simultaneous search warrants were executed on November 23 where various items were recovered.

The juveniles are suspected of stealing approximately 40 to 50 pounds of marijuana worth $47,000 - $82,000, glassware worth $2,000, and caused approximately $13,000 in property damage. It is believed that the teens used, traded, or sold the marijuana for profit.

The juveniles are looking at a multitude of felonies in multiple jurisdictions and were booked into custody over the last few weeks on the following charges: marijuana distribution (5-50 pounds) – a class 2 drug felony, 5 counts of 2nd degree burglary – a class 3 felony, attempted burglary – a class 4 felony, 2 counts of theft – a class 4 and 6 felony, 2 counts of criminal mischief – a class 5 felony and a class one misdemeanor, aggravated motor vehicle theft – a class 5 felony, possession of a handgun by a juvenile, a class 2 misdemeanor, and 1st degree criminal trespass – a class 5 felony. The juveniles were given bonds between $1,500 and $50,000.

Detectives are still working to tie the juveniles to other burglaries. If you have any information about the dispensary burglaries in Boulder County, you are asked to contact Detective Jason Shatek at: jshatek@bouldercounty.org.
