Boulder County Commissioners vote to support a comprehensive set of climate action policies for 2019-2020

Actions include adopting CC4CA's Climate Policy Statement

(Boulder County, Colo.) -- The Board of County Commissioners voted 2-0* to support the updated and comprehensive set of climate action policies for 2019-2020 developed by Colorado Communities for Climate Action (CC4CA).

These policy priorities represent steps that should be taken at the state and federal level, in partnership with local governments, to enable Colorado and its communities to lead in protecting the climate. They cover statewide and local climate strategies, energy generation, energy efficiency, transportation, fossil fuel extraction activities, and solid waste reduction.

The new policies are being adopted following a very successful 2019 state legislative session, in which eleven CC4CA priorities were adopted by the Colorado General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Polis. This includes CC4CA’s two top priorities: historic legislation creating aggressive statewide carbon pollution targets (HB19-1261) and legislation creating a new initiative to track and update an inventory of Colorado’s greenhouse gas emissions (SB19-096).

*Commissioner Elise Jones, who also serves as a member of the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission, abstained from the discussion and the vote.

Colorado Communities for Climate Action is a coalition of 27 local governments across the state that advocates for stronger state and federal climate policy. CC4CA is governed by a steering committee of representatives from member communities.
