Boulder County shelters plan for snowstorm event for individuals experiencing homelessness

Shelter providers increase outreach and outline an emergency weather plan for services during snowstorm

(Boulder County, Colo.) -- Homeless Solutions for Boulder County implemented a new strategy of increasing outreach efforts throughout the county before an expected extreme weather event. The outreach teams have been working with individuals to create plans regarding sheltering to ensure individuals experiencing homelessness have a safe place to shelter prior to the pending snowstorm this weekend.

If an individual experiencing homelessness does not have plans for the pending weather, the Outreach Collaborative partners share information where individuals may access sheltering and actively encourages individuals to access services prior to the extreme weather event. In the event of an extreme weather situation, the following sheltering options are available to individuals experiencing homelessness:

  • Boulder Shelter for the Homeless (BSH) - BSH provides individuals access to shelter services. In the event Boulder County's Emergency Operations Center is activated due to the snowstorm, BSH will follow extreme weather protocols, provide day sheltering, and determine additional capacity needs for overnight shelter.
