Death Investigation near Nederland

This afternoon searchers located the body of a 38-year-old man reported missing from Nederland.

Nederland, Colo. - This afternoon at 3:30 p.m., search and rescue personnel located the body of a 38-year-old man off of an unnamed Forest Service trail near the 4,000 block of Caribou Road, just outside the town of Nederland. The man had been reported missing by his family to the Nederland Police Department last night at 9:30 p.m. As Nederland officers investigated the missing persons report, they received information the man may have been in the Caribou area. A hasty search of the area was undertaken last night, but ended unsuccessfully.

This morning at 11:30 a.m., emergency personnel from the sheriff's office, the Nederland Police Department, Front Range Rescue Dogs, and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, returned to the Caribou area to resume the search effort. After the man's body was located, search and rescue personnel were joined at the scene by sheriff's and coroner's investigators. The man's death does not appear suspicious and foul play is not suspected.

The man's name is being withheld pending notification to his family. After all appropriate notifications are made, the Boulder County Coroner's Office will publicly identify the man. The coroner's office will also work to determine the cause and manner of the man's death.

The case number associated with this investigation is 16-4321.
