Felony menacing suspect at large

David Anthony Estes, 42, is wanted for felony menacing, third degree assault, and harassment, stemming from an altercation in Niwot

Niwot, Colo. - On Monday, October 17, at 11 a.m., sheriff's deputies were called to a residence in the 6800 block of Spring Hill Drive in Niwot on a disturbance. Through the ensuing investigation, deputies learned that David Anthony Estes, a 42-year-old Longmont man, manages the maintenance of several apartment buildings in Longmont and was meeting with the owner of the properties to discuss policies and procedures related to their management. Estes arrived at the property owner's home believing he was about to be terminated from employment based upon information he had been given from a co-worker prior to the meeting.

When Estes arrived at the property owner's home, he was immediately confrontational and exited his vehicle with a handgun and a rifle. Estes threatened the property owner on multiple occasions, and at one point pointed the handgun at the property owner, pulling the trigger twice during the altercation. The handgun didn't fire when the trigger was pulled, as it wasn't loaded. The property owner was also physically assaulted during the altercation and suffered minor injuries to his leg.

Estes fled the scene prior to the arrival of deputies. Deputies later attempted to locate Estes at his residence on Empire Place in Longmont utilizing the assistance of Longmont SWAT, and a small contingent of sheriff's SWAT members. Estes wasn't found at the residence and is still at-large.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Estes for felony menacing, a class five felony; third degree assault, a class one misdemeanor; and harassment, a class three misdemeanor. Bond on the arrest warrant has been set at $10,000. An arrest warrant is only an allegation and Estes maintains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Those with information on Estes' whereabouts are asked to contact the sheriff's office at (303) 441-4444, or their local law enforcement agency.

The case number associated with this investigation is 16-6406.
