Injured Hiker Rescued from East Ridge Trail

Boulder County, Colo. -

On Sunday, October 17, 2021, at approximately 2:40 pm, the Boulder County Communications Center was notified of a hiker who had injured her ankle in the area of the East Ridge Trail, just below the summit of Mount Sanitas, which is located just outside of the City of Boulder.

The 35-year-old female injured her ankle while descending from the summit when she slipped and fell. Initially, she called her friends, who brought materials up to splint her leg. She was still unable to walk out even with the splint on, at which point they called for rescue assistance. A Ranger from the City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks and firefighters from Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District arrived on scene first and provided additional medical care for the injured female. Members from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group responded and packaged the injured female into a beanbag splint and litter. A technical evacuation was conducted by Rocky Mountain Rescue Group with assistance from Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District. The injured female was evacuated to the trailhead where she was transported to a Boulder area hospital by her friends.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, American Medical Response (AMR), Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
