Lyon’s new drop-off recycling center opens!

The new facility is open dawn to dusk every day

Boulder County, Colo. - The Town of Lyons’ new drop-off recycling center is open. The recycling center, run jointly by the Boulder County Resource Conservation Division and the Town of Lyons, is co-located with the Wastewater Treatment Plant at 198 2nd Avenue.

The recycling center is on the south side of the lot and is open from dawn until dusk every day. Residents can drop off all single-stream recycling and cardboard – there are no fees to use the recycling center.

Last summer, the Town of Lyons and Boulder County worked together to find a new place for the recycling center when the Town of Lyons chose the old recycling center site as the location for their new regional library. The Town of Lyons expects to begin demolition of the old center in October.

Boulder County took the opportunity this move provided to start working on a newer, improved recycling center with ADA accessibility. The new site has ramps that provide access to the recycling bins, something the old facility did not provide.

Other improvements include fencing around the site and improved lighting. And, with the limited dawn-to-dusk hours, the new setup should help prevent illegal dumping. Previously, the facility was unfenced and open 24 hours, seven days a week. The easy access and extended hours contributed to illegal dumping of small electronics, office furniture, and other items not accepted at the recycling center.
