Officer Involved Shooting of Mr. Adrian Shaffer
Shooting occurred September 10, 2016 on Hwy. 287
Boulder County, Colo. - The Boulder County Investigative Team (BCIT), a multi-agency team which investigates officer involved deadly force encounters, completed an exhaustive investigation and presented their factual findings to the Sheriff and the District Attorney on September 29, 2016. The investigation involved the fatal shooting of subject Adrian Shaffer, by Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Teri Javes, on September 10, 2016, near the intersection of Highway 287 and Oxford Road.
Today, the District Attorney’s Office released their findings in a letter, indicating that Deputy Javes was fully justified in defending herself from an armed attack by the subject, and that she acted appropriately under the law.
Further, after review, the Sheriff finds that Deputy Javes acted within policy and per her training. In fact, Deputy Javes actions, calmness under fire, and deliberate decisions, saved her life and potentially the lives of other passing citizens. Her actions were valiant under the circumstances. In addition to being cleared of any wrongdoing, she will be awarded a medal of valor for her courage and skill under fire.

Deputy Javes will be returned to duty soon, in a manner intended to fully support her emotionally and professionally after such a traumatic event.
