One male assaulted and one unattended death in the Town of Nederland

Boulder County, Colo. - On Jan. 14, 2022, at 12:07 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a phone call regarding an assault that took place in the 100 block of North Jefferson Street in the Town of Nederland. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office covers the law enforcement duties of the town overnight and responded to the call.

The victim, a 34-year-old male, was assaulted and sustained serious bodily injury. The victim was taken to a hospital via ambulance for treatment. The suspect, a 31-year-old fled before law enforcement arrived. This morning, shortly after 6:00 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a call for a welfare check for a male lying in the road in the 100 block East 2nd Street, Nederland. Upon arrival by first responders, the male was pronounced deceased. Based on witness accounts, the deceased male appears to be the suspect in last night’s assault.

Currently, the death does not appear suspicious in nature. We do not believe there is a threat to the public. The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will determine the identification of the decedent, as well as cause and manner of death.

The following agencies responded to the incidents: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Nederland Police Department, Boulder Police Department, Colorado Rangers Law Enforcement Shared Reserve, Nederland Fire Protection District, Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, AMR Ambulance, and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.

The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number for the original assault is 22-205. The case number for the unattended death is 22-208.
