Poverty Simulation Event Scheduled for April 20 in Longmont

Determine how you would make
difficult choices about food, transportation and housing

Boulder County, Colo. - The
Boulder County Circles Campaign is hosting a poverty simulation event on April
20. This free event will help attendees better understand the difficulties
faced by community members living in poverty.

What: Poverty Simulation

When: Wednesday, April 20, 5:30-8 p.m.

Where: Longmont YMCA, 950 Lashley St., Longmont
RSVP: Call 303-441-1503 or email circlesinfo@bouldercounty.org

During the simulation, participants role-play the
lives of low-income families. The simulation includes interactions with human
service agencies, grocers, pawnbrokers, bill collectors, job interviewers,
police officers, and others. Participants experience the stressful task of
providing for basic necessities and shelter on a limited budget during the
course of four 15-minute “weeks.”

The simulation creates a broader awareness of the
realities of life in poverty and helps participants recognize and discuss the
potential for change within their local communities. After the simulation
attendees can debrief other participants, and talk with families who currently
live in poverty in Boulder County.

The event is free, but
reservations are required. For more information about the event or to RSVP,
contact
Jessica Austin
at 303-441-1503 or
