Rescue Eldorado State Canyon Park

Boulder County, Colo. - On June 7, 2016 at about 1721 hours Rocky Mountain Rescue, Rocky Mountain Fire Protection District and Boulder County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services were dispatched to Eldorado State Canyon Park, located at 9 Kneale Road on report of a stranded climber.

Jaime Chavez-Medrano (18 years old), Dillon Rodriguez (19 years old) and Armando Lozano (18 years old), all from New Mexico decided to explore one of the climbing access trails and ended up on the steep face of Rotwand Wall. Dillon and Armando were able to make it down safely, but Jaime was unable due to improper footwear.

Dillon and Armando contacted State Park Rangers who then notified the Boulder County Communications Center. Two Rocky Mountain Rescue personnel hiked up the backside of the mountain and were able to reach Jaime. With the assistance of ropes, harness and a helmet, Jaime was able to reach the top of the climbing area with assistance. Once at the top, he hiked out with recue personnel. No injuries were sustained during the incident.
