Skier dies after crash at Eldora Mountain Ski Resort

Boulder County, Colo. - Just before noon today, the Boulder County Communications Center received a call of a male who had sustained serious injuries in a skiing accident at the Eldora Mountain Ski Resort.

Witnesses observed the skier fall and slide down the Corona Run at a high rate of speed, then strike a tree. Given the steep terrain at the location of the accident, ski patrol transported the patient to medical personnel with AMR Ambulance and Nederland Fire Department.

A medical helicopter was requested, but they were not able to land at the ski area due to gusting high winds in the area. The North Colorado MedEvac pilot made a second attempt to land at Nederland High School, and then a third attempt at Barker Reservoir. Due to the strong winds and the multiple attempts made to land, the helicopter ran low on fuel and had to return to its base.

The patient, a male in his 50’s, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Office detectives and investigators from the Boulder County Coroner’s Office are investigating. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office and his name will be released by the Coroner’s Office once his identity is confirmed and next of kin has been notified.

The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number is: #21-310.
