Small Wildland Fire in the area of the 40 mile marker of Boulder Canyon
Boulder County, Colo. - On Tuesday July 4, 2017 at approximately 12:34am, the City of Boulder Police and Fire Dispatch Center received a report of a Wildland Fire in the area of the 40,200 block of Boulder Canyon Drive.
Boulder Fire Department, Boulder Police Officers and Deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office were initially dispatched to the scene. City personnel were the first to arrive on scene and discovered a fire that was approximately 20'x20' and spreading on the south side of Boulder Canyon Drive up the hillside.
City Firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire. The fire consumed approximately 1/10th of an acre. Members of the Four Mile Protection District also responded to assist.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined but appears to have been accidental and was possibly started by a cigarette.
The fire was contained on the south side of Boulder Canyon and no homes were endangered. No evacuations were needed.
Citizens are reminded to be vigilant with the holiday weekend, warm weather and dry conditions.
