Solar Benefits for Businesses Exceeds Expectations and Funds

Commercial
discount solar offer overwhelmed by demand; spurs plans for broader future
program

Boulder County, Colo. - Earlier
this month, Boulder County and its municipalities launched a group purchase
solar offering for businesses, and the program has already received an
unprecedented response. More than 40 businesses have expressed interest in installing
solar, with more than 50 expected to inquire by the program’s scheduled closing
date on Friday, April 29.

Given
the early high demand for the pilot program, Boulder County will likely be
opening another RFP (Request for Proposal) this summer to contract with solar
installers. Local solar installers are encouraged to respond and participate in
the program.

Boulder
County partnered with local installer Namaste Solar to offer a group discount
on solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Namaste was awarded a contract with the county
after participating in a competitive RFP process. In addition to the discounted
solar panels, Boulder County and the City of Boulder added a limited pool of
rebates for these projects, at the same $1/Watt rebate level as the existing
Partners for a Clean Environment rebates, with up to $20,000 available for
individual projects. By reducing the price of solar, adding financial
incentives, and pairing businesses with their own energy advisor, the program
makes it easier and more affordable than ever for small and medium-sized
businesses and property owners to invest in solar energy.

“We
are so pleased to see how many businesses responded to this great offer,” said
Pam Milmoe, Business Sustainability Coordinator for Boulder County. “With
current funding that will only be able to rebate seven to 10 projects in this
round, it’s likely the county will offer another incentive opportunity later in
the year.”

vehicle offer through with Boulder Nissan and Gebhart BMW, and an electric bike
deal through multiple vendors. The 2015 program facilitated the purchase of
more than 750kWh of residential rooftop solar and more than 248 electric cars
across the Front Range.
