Outbuilding in Riverside Area Burns Down

Boulder County, Colo. --On Friday, December 2, 2016, at approximately 1:30am, Boulder County Dispatch received a 911 call about a fire in the 500 block of Riverside Drive, in the Riverside community, located in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado. Riverside is situated between the community of Allenspark and the Town of Lyons, along State Highway 7.

A Boulder County Sheriff's deputy was the first to arrive on scene, and discovered a small outbuilding on fire near 513 Riverside Drive. The fire had started to spread to nearby vegetation, with flame lengths of ten to fifteen feet.

Firefighters from Allenspark Fire Protection District, Lyons Fire Protection District, Lefthand Fire Protection District, deputies from the Sheriff's Office, and paramedics from Estes Park Medical Center responded to the scene, and worked to put out the fire in the frigid conditions.

Prior to arrival of fire personnel, a reverse 911 call was sent from Boulder County Dispatch to homes within a 1/10 mile radius, advising of the fire, and preparing those residents for possible evacuation if the fire were to spread. With the extinguishing of the fire, a second reverse 911 call was sent advising affected residents they could stand down on possible evacuation.

The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation, and will resume during daylight hours by members of the Sheriff's Office, with help likely from MAFIT (the Multi-Agency Fire Investigation Team).

Boulder County Sheriff's Office case number for this investigation is 16-7365.
