Unattended Death Near Rainbow Lakes

Boulder County, Colo. - On March 9th, 2016 at approximately 4:23pm, deputies with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the area of Rainbow Lakes off of County Road 116 west of the Peak to Peak Highway to attempt to locate and check the welfare of Sean Warren, a 38 year old male from Denver, CO. Upon their arrival, they found a vehicle associated with Mr. Warren parked and unattended in the parking lot for the Sourdough Trailhead. They were then able to follow tracks in the snow from the vehicle to a small campsite. At the campsite, they found a male party deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Representatives from Indian Peaks Fire District, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, AMR Ambulance, Denver Water Board, and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to assist. Indian Peaks Fire, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, and Denver Water Board representatives were able to provide snowmobiles and personnel to facilitate accessing the scene through waist-deep snow.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and Boulder County Coroner’s Office are continuing the investigation; however, there are no indications of foul play at this time.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the decedent as Sean Warren and has notified next of kin.

The associated case number for this incident is 16-1387.
