At approximately 12:45 PM deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office along with the Boulder County Regional Bomb Squad and Boulder City Fire Department responded to the Sheriff's Office Headquarters at 5600 Flatiron Parkway in the City of Boulder for a call of unknown items in a box that had been turned in by a local resident.
The resident was cleaning out the attic of a house and came across a box containing what she thought was explosive material/devices. She brought the box to the Sheriff's Office to have the items properly disposed of. Upon review of the items, Deputies and bomb squad personnel recognized the items as detonation chord and three red colored cylinder shaped objects that appeared to be dynamite.
The bomb squad was able to utilize their remote controlled robots to pick up the box and place it in a containment drum. the box was then transport to the Boulder Police Department's range for proper disposal.
During this time the Headquarters of the Sheriff's Office was shut down for approximately two hours.
If you come across items that appear to be potentially dangerous (explosive, ammunition, unwanted fireworks, unknown chemicals, etc.) please call 911 before you disturb or move the items so that they can be disposed of properly.
