Update on the death investigation at the Boulder County Jail

The investigation into the death of 29-year-old Stephanie Anderson continues

Boulder, Colo. - Sheriff's detectives are continuing the investigation into the death of 29-year-old Stephanie Anderson who died while in-custody at the Boulder County Jail on Thursday, May 27. On Tuesday, June 1, a man appeared at a public hearing in front of the Boulder County Commissioners indicating that he wanted to talk about Ms. Anderson's death in the jail. After the hearing concluded the man made an allegation to the commissioners that Ms. Anderson had been asking for help but that a female deputy working the module had disregarded her request.

After Sheriff Pelle was informed by the Commissioner's Office of the man's allegation, eight additional investigators were assigned to investigate the man's claim. As of Thursday evening, detectives have completed 58 witness interviews and are expecting to interview approximately 20 more. Detectives are speaking with witnesses, jail staff, and inmates that were housed in the Women's Module with Ms. Anderson, in addition to reviewing facility records. No sheriff's employees have been placed on administrative leave as a result of the investigation to date.

The sheriff's office will continue to release information as it can; however, the investigation is active and on-going, which severely restricts the amount of information that can be publicly released without compromising it. When the investigation concludes more information will be provided and made available. As information becomes releasable, it will be provided through additional media releases.
