Board of Review

The Community Planning & Permitting Department physical office in Boulder is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Tuesdays the department is open by appointment only from 12:30–4:30 p.m. Most services are also available virtually. Staff is available at 303-441-3930, online, or via appointment.

Board of Review

By statutory authority, the Boulder County Board of Review hears and decides technical appeals to the interpretation of the Boulder County Building Code Amendments, which apply in the unincorporated areas of Boulder County, not in incorporated cities or towns. The Board of Review looks at proposed building code amendments and makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners’ prior to adoption. Meeting Schedule

Board of Review meetings occur as needed on the last Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. Special meetings are also scheduled as needed. Board of Review Public Meeting, April 6, 2022

Docket BORC-22-0001: Ignition Resistant Requirements for Construction in Wildfire Zone 2 (the Eastern Half of Boulder County)
Ron Flax, Deputy Director of Community Planning & Permitting/Chief Building Official, presented a proposed update to the ignition resistant construction requirements for construction in Wildfire Zone 2 (the Eastern half of Boulder County). This update is focused on exterior materials and construction details to be considered by the Board of Review for inclusion into the Boulder County Building Code Amendments to the currently adopted 2015 International Codes, and ask for input and feedback from board members and the public. This update has been prompted by lessons learned from the recent Marshall Fire. The Boulder County Building Code Amendments apply to unincorporated areas of Boulder County, not in incorporated cities or towns. The Board of Review is recommending approval of this adoption request to the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners. The Commissioners will hear this docket on May 12, 2022.
