Boulder County Motor Vehicle Offices Reopen June 1 - Appointments recommended

You can renew your registration online – even when expired or in the grace month. You may also renew by mail or at a self-service kiosk. Appointments are not available for renewals.

Boulder MV Express Kiosk – The self-service kiosk at the Boulder Clerk and Recorder is available for use from 7:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Please be aware that you will be required to wear a mask while in the building (for ages 12+ ; masks will be provided for those who do not have one).

Note: If you just moved to Boulder County from another Colorado county, you will not be able to renew online this year.

Renewal Notice

A courtesy renewal notice (postcard) is mailed to the address on file prior to the registration expiring. The postcard will not forward to a new address.

Provide the following to renew a registration:

Renewal Deadlines

Renew a vehicle registration during the following:

  • Month before the registration expires
  • Month the registration expires
  • Month after the registration expires, no later than the last business day, known as the one-month grace period

Late Fees

  • Colorado law requires residents to pay late fees.
  • Late fees are $25 per month.
  • Fees begin to accumulate after your one-month grace period.
  • Late fees may not exceed $100.

Temporary permits are not subject to a one-month grace period (C.R.S. 42-3-112, 42-3-114).
